Leadership

Helping others develop their talent,s and ultimately achieve their goals, all this in line with the company's Business Objectives, is a key skill I have acquired in my previous experiences.
It requires coaching, vision, objectivity, and a strong sense of empowerment.
I enjoyed reading "Maverick", relating the experience of Ricardo Semler who applied what can be described as the "ultimate" empowerment. Without going this far, his ideas inspire me in my leadership style.

Teamplayer

Coming from a big family, I know the meaning of respect, and I learned early on to respect the group as a whole, even though you personnaly do not always agree with the decisions made.
This is the same in my career, where you sometimes have to participate in processes which you personnaly did not create or chose. The reward: you get much further together than you would individually, and more often than not you achieve great objectives thanks to this team you are part of.

Committed

Being of a passionate nature, engaging myself in what I do, working hard towards our objectives, is thus normal. Commitment is also what helps me achieve my ideas (see the section about "Mind")
The same goes for my personal life, and a very good illustration of this is my marriage in 2009 to my wonderful wife (and yes I will say the same in 10 years)!

Innovative

Innovation is for me a mix between creativity, commitment and usability. I have plenty of ideas (too many probably), and to harness my impatience, I develop everyday my focus and my commitment to making things happen. This gives me confidence for those ideas that are still in the making.
In my personal time, I am part of an amateur "Improv theater" I can express my creativity - hopefully to the delight of the public!

Analytical

Analytical is defined in Wikipedia by:

Generally speaking, analytic (from Greek ἀναλυτικός - analytikos) refers to "having the ability to analyze" or "division into elements or principles."

I would link this to logic, and to numbers. I am able to tackle large issues by breaking them into smaller pieces and organising them logically. My easyness with numbers and mathematics helps me further by associating objective figures whenever possible.

Web Conception & Architecture

When you build a house, you call an architect and "design" your house *before* calling for the builders. Why isn't this the rule in web conception? Having been a Partner at Netway for almost 10 years, I devoted myself to information layout and architecture. This is a still rather unknown field of expertise, where a lot of people apply principles or rules, but do not master the underlying fundamentals directly linked with human behavior and scientific laws.

When speaking of "Computer skills", a friend of mine remarked that too often nowadays people still state "Windows, Excel, Word, etc..." as their skills.

Call-Center Manager, Belgacom-Skynet (1996-2000)

Planned, elaborated and implemented a professional Call-Center, covering most aspects (It & HR mainly)
Annual budget of ± 7M €
Managed growth from a 10 to a 120 people team, achieving a sharp improvement in service level from 10% to 80% on a rise in calls from 2,000 to over 100,000 calls daily.

The Company

Skynet is Belgium's #1 ISP. The first Belgian "garage start-up", these where the "golden days" of the internet, where everything was going too fast for everyone.

During my stay there, Skynet grew 200.000%, with the workforce reaching approx. 500 persons internally, within the Belgacom-Group (25.000 persons approx.)

A few words about this experience

Having had the great opportunity to become the first employee in "the" Belgian start-up,I enjoyed the crazy working hours, the mind-boggling numbers (of customers, of calls, of problems, of pizzas,...).

Above all, I enjoyed the incredible energy our team had, which of course brought incredible reults.

Reorganising a 20 persons crew to handle efficiently the pre-sales & after sales efforts.
Participate in several Marketing & IT projects, among which the complete overhaul of the website, key asset for this pure web oriented company.

The Company

Keytrade was the first online investment bank in Belgium, enabling customers to invest in the various European exchanges. Started by the same founders as Skynet, it quickly became yet another success, leading the Belgian market.

A few words about this experience

You know the saying "You don't change a winning team". Skynet's founders called me to be part of their team again, which I gladly accepted. It is while overhauling the website that I met my (future) Partner at Netway, and decided to join him to develop our own Company

Managing Partner & COO, Netway (2001-2009)

Participated in growing the revenues from 200K to 1.5M€, with all implied organisational aspects.
In charge of all large account missions (typical missions ranging from 30 to 100 mandays). Particular experise in information architecture, user testing & interface improvement.
At various points, in charge of HR, R&D, Finance.
Participated in developing a scientific methodology encompassing several scientific laws, as well as the core characteristics of the users brain & eyes.

The Company

Netway has become a leader in applied behavioral sciences. By integrating human behavior at all stages of application developments, Netway help companies achieve their business objectives with staggering end-user satisfaction.

Some of the unique skill sets at Netway include the development of unique tools based on scientific human behavior laws.

Having its own company is truly a great experience. A lot of joy & amazing success, a lot of tension & difficult moments as well.
